In 2016, Zika virus disease became a nationally notifiable condition. The virus is transmitted to humans primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. The World Health Organization expects the Zika Virus to eventually spread to all of the Americas except for Canada and Chile. Most disconcerting is a link between the Zika virus and microcephaly.
